Community Updates

  • Denver Streets Partnership (DSP) launched a contest to submit Spanish “Slow Down” slogans for community yard signs. Link:
  • Struggle of Love Foundations hosts the 14th annual Reach 4 Peace Parade on June 20th at 1pm. Drive-thru resources, food, entertainment, DJ, car show, Father of the Year, bike rides, and more. Best decorated car will receive a $200 cash prize!
  • Families Against Violent Acts (FAVA) hosts 15th annual Heal the Hood celebration June 26th from 1-5pm at Escalante Biggs Academy (5300 Crown Blvd Denver CO 80239). First 200 cars will receive a gift card! Free food and DJ!
  • Athmar Park Community Market runs every first Wednesday of each month through October from 5-7pm. Next event is July 7th 5-7pm. Market includes local vendors for food, crafts, home décor, and more. There is also bike maintenance, food trucks, and special seasonal activities!
  • Montbello organizing committee – June 25th Food Pantry: “Sacks of Love” Drive-Thru Food Pantry 12:00pm-2:00pm. Academy 360, 12000 E 47th Ave, Denver, CO 80239

Brainstorming Sessions

Attendees brainstormed ideas for a project funded by a microgrant through CALC. Ideas surrounded the ideas of walkability, bikeability, and access to safe spaces for physical activity. The 2 winning projects included an open play space event for youth with soccer balls, chalk, bubbles, etc. and a zumbathon at the park. Winners must complete project by August 11th.

A second grant was given to develop a Youth Built in Environment. Some ideas for this project include installations of picnic tables, trash cans, and a bike and bike equipment giveaway.
