Colorado is opening four community vaccination sites across the Front Range as employers prepare to meet new COVID-19 vaccination requirements announced last week by President Joe Biden.
Centennial Senior Commission – September 14, 2021
This Senior Commission is looking at several areas of interest to the Centennial City Council to provide advice and recommendations from the senior perspective. There are four subcommittees, housing, isolation and loneliness, transportation, and a community/senior center committee.
Many of the ideas shared by the housing committee are currently being investigated by Centennial’s planning department. They are considering different types of housing and provided information on a regional approach to providing housing for those nearby Centennial.
Isolation and loneliness subcommittee is looking at programs that reach out to isolated seniors. The Arapahoe County Sherriff’s office has a Senior Check-in program that coordinates weekly calls to seniors living alone. Another program that reaches out to seniors on regular basis is the COAST-IT program established during the COVID quarantine by the CU Multidisciplinary Center on Aging. This program pairs medical students and referred individuals for check in phone calls.
The transportation committee is exploring the mobility needs of Centennial Seniors. They hope to see transportation planning that links housing, services and amenities that serve seniors.
Finally, the community/senior center committee is looking at the feasibility of a community center that would be a place for activities for a wide variety of interests.
A common theme among the committees is the importance of education. Centennial has an active seniors program that provides education and entertainment that will focus on many of these issues. Centennial Active Seniors
The Regional Transportation District (RTD)’s 15/15L bus shelter improvement project will showcase windscreen artwork that celebrates Colfax Avenue as a vital connection between Colorado’s Eastern Plains and Rocky Mountains.
Designed in-house by RTD Architect Ignacio Correa-Ortiz, each of the 34 new shelters installed along east- and westbound Colfax Avenue in Denver and Aurora will feature a geometric design inspired by 20th century artist M.C. Escher embedded into the windscreen glass.

Reimagine RTD is a system optimization plan and a mobility plan for the future
Guiding Principles: The foundation for RTD service deliverables:

- Remove barriers for people to use transportation that gives customers the freedom to get where they want to go when they want to go
- First and last mile solutions
- Partner with public and private organizations to identify innovative opportunities to enhance mobility
- Foster a diverse workforce that promotes engagement and innovation
- Provide sustainable mobility options while reducing environmental impact
RTD is rebuilding a Working Group to provide input on performance measures, metrics, indicators, and milestones.
They are consulting with peer agencies like DART and Tri-county Metro to get ideas of what they were doing in comparison to RTD.
Next steps: public engagement and creating a service rebuilding working group.
Jeffco Transportation Needs assessment
Dawn Sluder and Karin Stewart met with the city council members to update the Jeffco needs assessment:
- Collect data on needs of the community
- Talk to the community
- Determine how to meet their needs
Next meeting: October 7, 2021 by Zoom
Fines will double on Sept. 10 for individuals who are not compliant with the requirement to properly wear a face covering while in airports, aircraft and various surface transportation modes.
